SPECIALIST SCENARIO: CARERS INCOME & DEBT CONSOLIDATION

Carers income case study Select

At Select, we understand that not everyone fits the criteria for a conventional home loan. That’s why it’s important to us that we can help our customers even in the toughest of circumstances.

Read how we were able to help the customer remain in their family home after a separation, all while looking after her severely disabled son and two other children.

What was the customer’s situation?

The client was a single mum with three children, who wanted to buy out her ex-husband from their family home and to clear her credit card debt. It is important to the client that the family remains in the same home as one of her children is severely handicapped and the property has been completely customised to cater to the child’s needs.

What made this deal unique or challenging?

The client had some credit issues in the past and was declared bankrupt in 2015 (now discharged). This came about when her child had a serious accident which left him seriously disabled. During this stressful time the client was unable to work and meet her bills and ended up in bankruptcy.

The client obtained the training and qualifications she needed so she could be her child’s full time carer. Income verification became difficult as she was a contracted worker to ACC.

How did Select help?

Select was able to accept the income the client was receiving from her ACC carers contract which allowed the application to be accepted. The client also consolidated her current credit card debt into the one home loan payment. Select we’re pleased to help the client and her children remain in their family home.
