Three trees planted for every home loan
To help do our bit for the planet, we've partnered with One Tree Planted and FEED. With their help, we plant one tree in all three Select locations - New Zealand, Australia and the Philippines - for every home loan we settle.
One Tree Planted is a non-profit dedicated to global reforestation. They aspire to make it easier for individuals and businesses to give back to the environment, create a healthier climate, protect biodiversity and help reforestation efforts around the world. In 2019 alone, One Tree Planted was able to get 4 million more trees in the ground! Currently, they are focussing on building a brand-new forest ecosystem in New Zealand's Pamoa Forest of the North Island, and ongoing bushfire recovery in Australia.
FEED (Fostering Education and Environment for Development, Inc.) supports sustainable education and tree-planting/nurturing, aiming to inclusively grow, preserve and protect Philippine marine and land biodiversity. Our Manila employees will get involved in tree-planting trips, and will be able to track the trees via GPS throughout their lifetime! Not limited to a tree-planting initiative, FEED seeks to have a positive impact on all aspects of climate change, community development and livelihood initiatives, and scientific research.
Habitat for Humanity
We with Habitat for Humanity, a global charity dedicated to helping people into their own home - which is at the heart of Select's purpose. We actively encourage our people to get involved. Our employees get one paid volunteer day a year, when they might help build local homes, support bushfire recovery efforts, or renovate a local women's shelter.
Through our workplace giving program, employees have the opportunity to make pre-tax salary donations to Habitat for Humanity, which fund home-building projects across New Zealand, Australia and the Philippines.
Our local offices also participate in community initiatives like Round the Bays in Auckland and the City2Surf in Sydney, to raise donations for Habitat for Humanity.
Curbing our footprint
Operating in the bustling cities of Auckland, Sydney and Manila, we're also conscious of our impact on the environment. We measure our carbon footprint each year and take proactive steps to reduce our environmental impact. Our offices are set up to create as little waste as possible, with centralised recycling and compost bins, personalised mugs or keep cups for all employees, and sensor lights and taps in the bathrooms. Our reliance on paper is reducing every year, as we minimise printing, and digitise records and systems. We use recycled paper and bamboo paper products, complying with local forestry standards.
